Consummate Speaker, Noted Author & Certified Seminar Leader Melvin Murphy brings 14 years of speaking and training experience to the organization founded by him Institute for Partnership Solutions. Mr. Murphy provides keynote speeches and seminars to educational institutions, civic groups, public associations, and corporations throughout the country.

Mr. Murphy’s goals include actively participating in the ever-changing landscape of communicating in the professional arena, authoring progressive ideas and concepts, main-streaming ethical business practices and promoting an innovative, non-bureaucratic approach to building partnerships in business through networking concepts.

In addition to managing all program development, he oversees the conceptual, design and promotion of course materials, audiovisuals, graphics and other organizational literature.

Mr. Murphy is a former member of the National Speakers Association, former board member of the National Capital Speakers Association, a member of Toastmasters International and has received the Young Outstanding American and Who’s Who? awards.

In January 2004, Melvin received his first political appointment by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to serve as the Providence District Commissioner for the Fairfax County Consumer Protection Commission representing 70,000 residents.

In March 2005, Melvin received his second appointment from the Governor to serve as a State Commissioner on the Virginia Board of Agriculture and Consumer Services for the 11th district representing 840,000 Northern Virginia residents.

In addition to conducting numerous keynotes speeches and seminars, Mr. Murphy authored, Desire: The Emotional Appetite for Success,(1995) that discusses concepts and principles for developing a mental attitude which could serve as the foundation for achieving desired successes, professional, as well as, personal. Mr. Murphy also authored Barber Shop Talk: The Other Side of Black Men,(1997) which chronicles interviews with clients and their perspectives on business success, obstacles to success, social attitudes and political issues. In addition, his new release, It’s Who You Know: Creating Mentor-Based Alliances and Partnerships through Networking, (May 2004) which shares the professional secrets on creating alliances and partnerships from over 200 corporate executives. In addition, he is a contributing Business Editor for two newspapers, a contributor to the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority newsletter and is an Ezineartlicle.com Expert Author on Networking.

Melvin earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from The American University, Washington, D.C., where he studied Public Communications with a minor in Sociology. He is a 1998-99 White House Fellows candidate, 1999-00 Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership Fellows candidate. He also received an appointment from the Commonwealth of Virginia, House of Delegates, to serve on the Economic and Employment Task Force of the Joint Subcommittee Studying the Status and Needs of African-American Males. Also, he participated in a roundtable on African-American Males’ Perspectives on Education where he penned a brief on the socio-cultural factor Image of African-American Males in the Media for the joint task force studying education. Melvin formerly participated on the 1999 Virginia State Wide Foster Care Association Task Force, studying changes required in reversing the negative images of young black males and to successfully attain adoption and foster care. In addition, he has volunteered to teach speech classes to incarcerated teens and adults.

As a former U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant, Melvin believes that the secret to success is having faith, education, building relationships, keeping a positive attitude, and taking action on one’s own accord to make things happen. It has been said, audiences leave his keynote presentations informed, entertained, and "ready to run out and take on the world," with workable and effective principles.
